Together. Saving Lives.

Quilt Square

Created in honor of Rachel Leahy

Rachel lived most of her 22 years in Virginia and North Carolina, aside from the two years when she lived in Paris. Rachel loved her summers in the Blue Ridge Mountains as well as her time in the sun at the beach. She adored animals, especially her dog, Toby, who came from the rescue organization where Rachel often volunteered. Like many kids, Rachel made music her constant companion (with the help of Apple), and her tastes were eclectic; from classical to classic rock to dubstep – and she wasn’t shy about expressing her opinions about music. As a student at Guilford College, Rachel developed a passion for English literature, and in her later years she worked as a teaching assistant in the English Department. After graduating in 2014, she began working at the College as a writer and researcher in the Admissions and Advancement Departments. Howerver, her first full-time job after college did not last long. Later that year, Rachel suffered unexplained acute liver failture and died of complications only two weeks later, on November 5, 2014.
