Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation
One registered donor can touch so many lives
When you register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor, your decision could save the lives of up to 8 people through organ donation, while 75 other people could experience healing through your gift of tissue. And countless other lives could be enhanced and improved through research using donated organ, eye, and tissue gifts that cannot be used for transplants.
Organ Donation
Heart
Lungs
Liver & Pancreas
Kidneys
Small Intestines
Organs that can be donated are the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, and small intestines. Organs are used to save lives by replacing diseased organs with healthy ones. Over 80% of the people who need to have a transplant surgery are waiting for kidneys. When a healthcare professional notifies HonorBridge about a potential organ donation, we step in to speak with the family, evaluate the potential gifts, and coordinate the donation and transplantation process.
Tissue Donation
Skin
Bone
Corneas
Heart Valves
Veins
Tissues that are most commonly donated include skin, bone, corneas, heart valves, and veins. These gifts are used to treat survivors of burns, to heal diseases such as cancer or heart disease, to restore sight, or to help people with athletic injuries heal. When a healthcare professional notifies HonorBridge of a potential tissue donor, we step in to see if the person is a registered donor, speak to the family, and evaluate the potential gifts. Recovery takes place in the hospital or at HonorBridge’s facility before the donor is transported to the funeral home.
